DownStage Photo...a back-stage story
Downstage is the place on stage actors hope to be placed by the director.
Downstage is the area of the stage that is closest to the audience.
DownStage Photo was formed with that in mind.
Life is a stage and everyone, for the most part, wants to be seen...captured, if
you will, in that brief moment in time in a photo.
Having performed in theater for 20 years, Brian Markham brings a unique
perspective to viewing his subject. Being a very visual person, Brian is always
looking at people, things, actions, moments, and trying to capture them in that
special light, context or angle.
After two decades of being on stage in many diverse roles he realized that there
was often a lack of photo documentation of the production. Concurrently he had
been taking photos of his beautiful children, special occasions, trips and other
affairs. Now in the digital and social networking age there was more exposure to
his work and with that came feedback to go “pro.” Inspired by other
photographers and following a family tradition of photography, DownStage Photo
was born.
Originally inspired by photographing stage productions, Brian expanded his
official repertoire to include casual and candid portrait, headshots, small
events, and “Still Life art.” Through his photography Brian’s objective is to
capture the moment, spirit and emotion of the subject. .
